I am currently working on renovating my condominium. The plan is to install dark oiled parquet flooring continuously throughout the living room, bedroom, and kitchen.
Now I just need to decide between different wood types.
What are your experiences with short-strip walnut parquet? Personally, I find walnut parquet more attractive than acacia, but it is unfortunately a bit more expensive and noticeably softer.
Can you tell the difference, for example, when rolling an office chair around? Does walnut show scuff marks faster than acacia? I don’t want to regret my decision after just six months if the floor already looks very worn :-(
Thank you very much for your advice. It would also be great if anyone has photos of installed examples :-)
Thanks

Hi,
Unfortunately, I can’t provide photos, and my experience is secondhand. The most durable option is, of course, oak parquet, and I find acacia to be quite soft. It can get scratched easily. Personally, I also like walnut for parquet. I would simply recommend going to a specialist store for advice.
Good luck with it.

If I could choose, I would go with American walnut. It just looks great and, I think, is also very sturdy. I also like the grain patterns.
Kind regards

bastian-124 Jun 2015 05:14Walnut is a premium hardwood and naturally comes at a higher price. We have walnut parquet flooring, and it looks very nice. This type of flooring is also well suited for underfloor heating, as it conducts heat effectively.
I paid 80 Swiss francs per square meter (about 7.4 square feet), which is already in the higher price range.
