Hello everyone,

My wife and I have been looking for a house builder who can realize our house in the American style (New England style) for some time.

Many prefab home builders say they can build in this style, but when we ask for reference houses, their examples are quite limited.

So, the question is whether anyone can recommend a house builder? Preferably from the southern region.

We were in contact with Greenville, but decided against them due to their unusual upfront planning fees and contract structure.

We really liked Rörvikshus, but unfortunately, it is too expensive for us. Does anyone have experience with Rörvikshus? Are the construction costs justified?

Best regards,

There are so many providers,... In my parents-in-law’s neighborhood, someone built a house with Eksjöhus a few years ago. A pretty house. We had considered building a Swedish timber house for a while, but in the end decided against it because, in our opinion, it simply doesn’t fit the surrounding landscape.

And are the neighbors happy with the house?

But in the USA, that is very rarely wood. It only looks like it.
Well, that’s not entirely true. Aluminum and vinyl have been and still are mostly used for cheaper renovations and some new builds. Wood has always been the number one building material, especially in historic districts and affluent areas with HOAs, where it is often required. And yes, it’s definitely not fun to repaint an entire house every 10-15 years. 😀

Your avatar also looks quite "Swedish house"-style?

@11ant We don’t have a Swedish house, although it looks quite similar. The wall construction with solid timber exterior walls is comparable to Thoma Haus. I have no idea if they still build them the same way as over 20 years ago. Our general contractor was Zellbau in Bad Waldsee, which no longer exists. The work was carried out by Holzbau Walser in Bad Schussenried, whom I can warmly recommend—both professionally and personally—and their website has a lot of beautiful examples to see.

@Dennis-USA I’m really excited about the thread. I really like this style and would love to have a few more bay windows, a front porch, and even a turret built on our place 🙂

Thank you for the helpful tips.

To summarize:

Stommel Haus and Baufritz are recommendable. Is that correct?

Has no one had any experience with Rörvikshus yet?
