Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out with one of the many issues we’re facing on our construction site. Maybe you have some advice.

We ordered our windows in Poland about nine months ago. They were installed roughly six months ago, and there were immediately some minor defects, such as damaged surface films and corners of the films that weren’t perfect, but otherwise everything seemed fine. The windows are manufactured to German standards and are of good quality – thankfully, this has been confirmed. However, the situation is different with the window sills and the aluminum roller shutters.

The window sills are so sensitive that they scratch just by running a fingernail over them. The roller shutters are so thin that they dent under very minimal pressure.

Do we have any chance of addressing this, or are we just out of luck? Our window sills already have numerous small and some deeper scratches because they got scratched during the external plastering when covered with styrofoam.

Thanks a lot!
Best regards,
Katja

Hello Katja, I’m afraid you will have to live with that. There are probably some warranty options in Poland, but they are likely not as customer-friendly as in Germany. You probably won’t have much recourse unless the installation company has taken on the warranty. I wish I could have written something more positive.......

however, these are certainly not as customer-oriented as in Germany.

From my personal experience, I can say that customer service is significantly better among Eastern European craftsmen than among German tradespeople. The downside, of course, is that if you bother them too much, they can simply become unreachable.

@nordanney I didn’t know that. However, we don’t know how the deal was made. I think it will be difficult.

Just ask the company directly. But scratches during construction, etc., you can always be told it was the contractor XYZ...

Besides, it’s always a risk when you buy cheaper from abroad. You’re more likely to have legal security in Germany. For that, you pay a few euros more.
