DerHesse230 Jan 2022 19:31Hello everyone,
we are planning to buy a house from 1970. One downside, in our view, is that the living areas still have night storage heaters installed. If I understand correctly, the ban on these was overturned, so they are still allowed to be used.
According to the seller, unfortunately there is no gas supply on the street. What alternative heating options are available?
Maybe this is just a misconception, but I have heard that a heat pump only makes sense with underfloor heating – is that correct?
Is there a general estimate for the cost of installing heating pipes? The house has two floors and about 200m² (2,150 sq ft).
Thanks and best regards from Hessen

What does the energy performance certificate look like?
What are you planning to change or modernize? Are you adding insulation? Replacing windows or doors...?
That way, we can approach it based on your actual needs, instead of listing five different heating systems right now...

We are still in negotiations and do not have the energy performance certificate yet, but the final energy demand is 185 kWh/(m²*a). I have to admit, that doesn’t tell me much.
We want to replace the windows, shutters, and doors. As for insulation, we’ll have to see what the budget allows.

Is there a general estimate for the cost of heating pipes? It’s a two-story house with about 200m² (2,150 sq ft). 1. A heat pump also works with suitable radiators. There are even specific models designed for heat pumps, which include small fans built in.
2. It’s hard to give a general estimate because you also have to remove the old floors, install the piping, adjust the electrical system, and so on.

Alternative: gas heating. You can also install a gas tank in the garden. This is a common solution and not unusual.
