Hey everyone,
Since I’m an enthusiastic DIY hobbyist, my garage turns into a workshop on some days. Unfortunately, the insulation of my garage is, well… let’s just say it “leaves a bit to be desired,” which makes heating equipment essential on cold days. However, two weeks ago, my old fan heater broke down. To be honest, I was never really satisfied with it anyway.

Does an infrared heater really start to feel warm immediately after turning it on? I’m currently trying to decide whether that’s just marketing or if it’s true. It would be especially practical for me since, until now, I sometimes had to start heating my garage up to an hour earlier with the fan heater just to warm it in advance.

I’d appreciate your feedback!

Basically, infrared heating is not "bad," but it is unsuitable for your garage because it would need to be on for a long time to produce even a small amount of warmth.
Your heater, on the other hand, provides plenty of heat exactly when you want it.
Inside the house, I find infrared heating very comfortable.

The two actually disagree about it needing to be on for a long time!

With an infrared heater, the purpose is not to heat the room but to warm the objects that are exposed to the radiation. In this case, the person working there. You turn the heater on, and as soon as it glows and you are exposed to the radiation, it feels warm.

For example, a changing table lamp for babies works the same way.
