ᐅ Alternative to Centralized/Decentralized Ventilation

Hello everyone,

I recently joined this forum because we are currently quite frustrated with the topic of ventilation.
Our construction project starts at the end of April.
It is a solid brick/Poroton house, a single-family home with 200 m² (2,150 sq ft) of living space on two levels. KfW 55 energy standard.

I can’t really explain it, but I can’t decide on a central ventilation system because of the long duct lengths inside the house. I know that all pipes are clean and protected by filters, but my gut feeling just doesn’t agree.
With decentralized systems, we are bothered by the fans on the exterior walls in every room.

Now we are looking for an alternative.
We also didn’t find window frame ventilators very appealing.

So my question is:
Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know of another system?
We learned about a system available through Baufritz houses with air transfer grills. However, it is only distributed through Baufritz.
It’s a central ventilation system that blows air directly into the house over a short distance and then distributes it further via transfer grills above the doors.

I look forward to your input and help.

Maybe the Blumartin system is something for you; you should look it up.
It was offered to us as well, but I declined because I am convinced by the system of traditional central controlled residential ventilation.

With decentralized units, we don’t like having fans on every room on the exterior façade.

Yes, we felt the same way. That’s why we don’t have any ventilation system installed. We will simply rely on the classic window opening and closing.

But I wonder how it’s possible that you haven’t decided yet when the construction starts at the end of April. Everything should already be applied for by now.

Do you need to apply for ventilation? I don't think so.

Ventilation does not require a building permit / planning permission.

None. We have windows that we can open and close. Inside, there is clay plaster and a radiant heating source as the heating system, with no air conditioning, ventilation system, or central heating. This results in excellently regulated humidity levels. A musty indoor climate only occurred once during a large gathering in the last pre-Corona winter, which was quickly resolved within minutes by creating cross-ventilation and opening windows widely.

Like you, I don’t have positive thoughts about having numerous forced ventilation ducts in the house. Just the combination of regular filter maintenance and my strict insistence on timely servicing makes me shudder.

Baufritz offers a hybrid system. It is an exhaust ventilation system with CO2-controlled ventilation flaps in the rooms. So, it is a decentralized system without individual fans, but with the same openings in the façade and a large exhaust fan including the associated ductwork.

I would recommend a central mechanical ventilation with heat recovery system. Because with Baufritz, you basically get both... the ducts and the openings.

The system notifies you when the filters need to be replaced. So, it’s very irregular. Similar to changing a vacuum cleaner bag (if you still have or know that).
