Hello everyone,
We are currently planning our home’s technical systems. We will be installing an air-to-water heat pump, and my husband saw these Nest thermostats at his brother-in-law’s place and now absolutely wants them. Setting aside that these devices are quite expensive… how much do typical thermostats usually cost? Of course, there are probably all kinds of price ranges, but I mean the standard white or gray control units. Does anyone have experience with Nest? Do they just look good, or are these thermostats also effective? Can you tell the heating specialist, “Hey, skip your usual thermostats and install these ones instead?”
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok... apparently no one knows these Nest thermostats. How about other smart thermostats? For example, Netatmo or tado?

I mentioned the last point without any doubt. It is important to carefully check who gets access to what and who may potentially be able to read along.

Nest is now part of Google. I've heard about concerns regarding data collection, but in my opinion, these are mostly unfounded... besides, heating data is probably the least sensitive information I have.
Still, it’s something to keep in mind, yes.

Thermostats that fit into your existing switch system typically cost between 50 and 150 euros purely for the material. If it doesn’t matter whether they fit your switch program, there are thermostats available starting at 20 euros.
I think this whole topic is still in its early stages. I wouldn’t bet on it right now. The technology in this area is still too expensive and hasn’t been tested over the long term. And who knows if these devices will still be useful in a few years.
It is interesting, yes, if you have the necessary budget. But this is just the beginning of home automation. Ideally, you should settle on one system since not everything is compatible with each other. Once you start with this, it can quickly become quite expensive.
