ᐅ Air source heat pump, hydronic fireplace stove, how they work, underfloor heating?

Hello!

Who can explain to me how an outdoor air-source heat pump works in combination with a non-water-based wood stove?
I just can’t find any explanation online about how this works technically.

This system seems to be the right choice for us since we want underfloor heating in our new single-family home and, for cozy warmth, we wanted a wood stove anyway.

Thanks in advance for any information.

None at all.

Hello!

That’s right 😉. You can consider the wood stove as

- a cozy heat source and/or
- a backup heating system in case of a power outage and/or
- an additional heater during very low outside temperatures

It probably won’t save much energy, so integrating a water heating system might not be very practical. I would also have (probably unfounded) safety concerns about that.

I would focus on the combustion air supply—either through a secondary flue or the shell brick. My neighbors have either a room air-dependent stove (meaning their windows are slightly open) or an air supply through the floor slab (which unfortunately got flooded).

Best regards,
