Do I now need an additional meter and a separate electricity tariff? You only need one if the electricity provider’s terms and conditions exclude the use of heat pumps on the standard household electricity tariff. How they would find out is another question... You might consider installing a second meter if your supplier offers a special heat pump tariff that provides comparatively lower consumption costs. However, make sure to calculate carefully! Often the price per kWh is low, but the monthly fixed fees, which include the costs for the second meter, often offset the savings from the heat pump tariff, making the second meter uneconomical.

What electricity consumption are you expecting for the heat pump? If the savings from the cheaper heat pump electricity are offset by the extra costs of the electricity meter, then installing an additional meter doesn’t make sense.
All of this should ideally be discussed with you before the meter installation takes place.
