ᐅ After moving, the KALLAX doors no longer fit properly for me – any tips?

Hello everyone,

I recently moved with my KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA and now I’m facing a small issue that’s quite frustrating: the doors I installed on the unit no longer close properly and don’t fit flush against the cabinet edges. Everything is new, and I haven’t made any significant changes to the doors or the unit itself.

I suspect this might be related to the new spatial conditions, slight warping, or a minimal dimensional deviation in the floor or wall. Are there any tips or tools here in the forum that could help me adjust or fix the doors without having to buy new ones or rebuild the whole shelving unit? I’m thinking that small wedges, adjustment screws, or similar modifications might help.

Has anyone had experience with this? I look forward to your advice and suggestions!

Best regards,
kihannes

My solution was to stick small self-adhesive felt pads to the door edges

That sounds promising, thanks for the tip!

I will give it a try and also check the doors again with a spirit level.

Additionally, I will see if I can adjust the hinge screws a bit better; maybe there is more room for adjustment than I thought.

If none of that works, I am considering modifying the shelf slightly, perhaps with small wooden strips to even out the edges.

I’ll keep you updated!

One more thought: If the floor is very uneven, it might be worth considering adding adjustable feet to the shelf afterwards.

This allows you to level the shelf precisely and greatly reduces the problem of misaligned doors. This is also a common professional practice when a piece of furniture does not sit flush with the floor.

Although IKEA does not sell adjustable feet for KALLAX, there are adapters or sets available that can be used. I would definitely try this before spending a lot of effort adjusting the doors.

Exactly, that makes sense and can really reduce stress. Having a more stable base also provides peace of mind when everything fits properly 🙂

I personally use small rubber pads under my KALLAX shelves, which also protect the floor and provide a slight level adjustment.

Especially when planning for the long term, such a small upgrade can make a big difference.

Good addition with the adjustable feet!

One more tip: When installing the doors, make sure the hinges are fully and correctly screwed in. Sometimes they shift slightly, which can cause issues during use.

If applicable, also check the fittings on the back of the shelving unit that prevent it from warping over time.

To avoid putting extra strain on the doors, the shelving unit should be absolutely stable.

And finally – if the shelving unit moves slightly, you can easily remove the doors, adjust the edges with fine sandpaper, and reinstall them.

Installing adjustable feet on the shelf

Hello everyone,

I ordered adjustable furniture glides today to level the shelf precisely. First, I want to improve its stability.

Take the doors off and adjust the edges slightly

I will try that carefully in case the felt pads and leveling are not enough.

Thanks for all your tips! It’s reassuring to hear that I’m on the right track and that this issue is not uncommon.

I’ll report back on how it goes!
