Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me with a problem that appeared after I moved. Since I transported and reassembled my KALLAX shelving unit, all the inserts (meaning the shelves and smaller compartments) have been noticeably loose, even though they were firmly in place before.
I’m wondering what the typical causes for this looseness of KALLAX inserts after a move might be. Could it be a material issue caused by handling, or have some connections loosened?
I have already checked the joints of the unit but couldn’t find any obvious damage. Still, nothing fits tightly anymore, which is a bit puzzling to me.
I look forward to your assessments, tips, or experiences on this topic!

What are the typical causes of this wobbling in KALLAX inserts after a move?Hey, I had the same issue after my last move! For me, it was due to a few missing or displaced plastic pegs on the shelves. These small parts actually hold the inserts firmly in the unit. Something must have shifted during the move.
Check if all of these small holders are still in the right place. Sometimes they’re forgotten, and the shelves are just placed loosely. If any are missing, the wobbling can become quite noticeable.
The quickest fix for me was to reassemble everything and, if needed, replace or buy new pegs.
To solve the issue of loose fittings in the KALLAX units after moving, I recommend a thorough check of the following points:
- Fit accuracy: Verify whether the connectors still fit together precisely, without any crushing or damage to the edges.
- Back panel: Is it properly secured? It often significantly stabilizes the shelf.
- Connectors: Check for a firm hold; if necessary, secure them with a few drops of wood glue.
- Assembly method: Were the shelf parts fully unscrewed during the move or transported assembled?
If in doubt, it helps to disassemble the shelf step by step, lightly work on each part (sanding edges, adding glue), and then reassemble it. This way, the original stability can be restored.
