ᐅ After moving, all the inserts in the KALLAX unit are loose – what could be the causes?

bifo62Hello everyone,
I hope you can help me with a problem that appeared after I moved. Since I transported and reassembled my KALLAX shelving unit, all the inserts (meaning the shelves and smaller compartments) have been noticeably loose, even though they were firmly in place before.
I’m wondering what the typical causes for this looseness of KALLAX inserts after a move might be. Could it be a material issue caused by handling, or have some connections loosened?
I have already checked the joints of the unit but couldn’t find any obvious damage. Still, nothing fits tightly anymore, which is a bit puzzling to me.
I look forward to your assessments, tips, or experiences on this topic!

Since I transported and reassembled my KALLAX shelf, unfortunately all the inserts are noticeably wobblyHey, that sounds like the shelf is a bit more unstable than jelly at a jelly party 😉. Joking aside: Transport can loosen or slightly warp the joinery – this often happens, especially if you don’t fully disassemble the shelf.
It’s worth removing all the inserts and then realigning or gently tightening the connections. Sometimes the wood weakens due to moisture or temperature changes and becomes a bit more flexible – which could explain the wobbling.
Did you fully take the shelf apart for the move, or did you transport it assembled? 🙂

These components provide stability, and if they have loosened, the units can wobble.
A tip from me: check whether the back panels fit properly and if there are any misaligned areas. Also, try gently twisting the connections with a bit of force – this usually helps you quickly identify where something is stuck or no longer fitting correctly.
Keep at it, you’ll get it sorted!
From a technical perspective, the looseness of the inserts after moving is likely due to play in the tongue-and-groove joints as well as loosening of the connectors, which were subjected to mechanical stress during transport.
This statement is accurate and should be systematically checked. This also includes inspecting the rear panel fastenings, especially the thin particleboard or MDF panels that provide lateral stability.
Additional reinforcement of the rear panel with nails or screws can help make the entire shelving unit more stable. It is also advisable to remove all inserts and check whether any loosening has occurred at the connector joints.
If the kit components have swollen slightly, which can happen due to moisture, this reduces the fit accuracy and may require mechanical adjustment (e.g., slight sanding of the edges).

During transport, the glue joints at the connection points can become slightly loosened, even if there is no visible damage. This results in some play.
My advice is to reinforce the connectors and dowels with a bit of wood glue at that opportunity. Simply disassemble the parts, apply a small amount of glue to the edges, and reassemble firmly. This significantly increases the stability in the long term.
Additionally, the shelf should be properly leveled, as uneven positioning causes unnecessary stress.

Adding extra reinforcement to the back panel with nails or screws can help make the entire shelving unit more stable.I completely agree! Nothing is worse than wobbly shelves. I specifically screwed small metal brackets to the back panel myself. That provides real support and feels very reassuring, especially after a move.
Also, sometimes just putting a bit of weight on the shelves helps them sit more securely – the KALLAX system is simple, but if the shelves are too lightly loaded, they tend to wobble more. Just fill them up 🙂
