Hey everyone, my wife and I are planning to build early next year, and we’ve noticed that what we want to build costs more than we are willing to pay. Someone on a blog mentioned the great potential to reduce overall costs by building a kit house or a prefabricated house. We are very interested in hearing experiences from others who have built such a house in the past. Thanks a lot!

That only works to a limited extent. You are exchanging money for your own labor. Do you have time to take, say, half a year off? And do you have enough construction experience?

6 months to complete the shell construction? I have estimated a maximum build time of 4 months. I am getting professional help. I have 2 construction experts available for a few weeks, I have one month of vacation, and I am highly motivated and ready for 10-hour days.

Not just for the shell. For the whole house.
You don’t need to rely on prefabricated kits just for the shell. That’s possible with any material. For example, sand-lime bricks (planning bricks) are delivered sized for the house and just need to be assembled (which the builders do). Saving a little masonry work won’t make you rich – it only takes a few days for the masons anyway.
