ᐅ Additional Insulation for a Bien-Zenker Prefabricated House – What Makes Sense?

Jay_KayDear forum,
We are facing several decisions regarding our planned prefabricated house project with Bien-Zenker.
First, it concerns the choice of insulation.
By default, Bien-Zenker provides an exterior wall meeting KfW-40 standards plus KfW-40 windows; everything else is standard, meaning it is classified as an energy-efficient house by their definition. We are considering additional insulation beneath the floor slab, as this cannot be added later, along with insulation on the end face of the floor slab. Furthermore, the company offers extra insulation for the upper floor ceiling beneath the unfinished attic. To fully achieve KfW-40 standard for the entire house, would the roof then also need to be insulated?
Which types of insulation would you recommend, and which are most efficient? For example, does insulating the roof make a difference in both winter and summer if the ceiling to the attic is already insulated?
Thank you very much!

Which insulation materials do you recommend, and which are the most efficient?Standard insulation. The rest costs more and offers little benefit. You can insulate the top floor ceiling yourself later for around 1,000€ (about 1,100 USD) if you want.

We had the insulation under the slab and on the sides of the slab professionally installed. Exactly for the reason you mentioned, since it’s not possible to do it later.
As @nordanney says, I’m not sure how much benefit it really brings, and I also think you never fully recover the costs through energy savings. Still, it felt better for us to do it.

Dear forum,
we are facing some decisions regarding our planned prefabricated house project with the company Bien-Zenker.
First of all, it is about the choice of insulation. Dear Al-Emm,
there is no need to start a separate thread for every single aspect of a Bien-Zenker house. Just gather all your questions about your house project into one general thread, after all, it is only ONE project. One thread per person, like in Life of Brian, that’s enough.
