Hello,

we are currently considering building a new house, and I have just learned that besides the additional costs when purchasing a plot of land and the usual monthly utility costs for energy, water, waste, etc., there is also the so-called property tax...

The calculation doesn’t seem straightforward and varies depending on the location, but is it theoretically possible that this could amount to several hundred euros per month?

We plan to build about 160 sqm (1,720 sq ft) of living space over two floors on a 700–900 sqm (7,535–9,688 sq ft) plot in North Rhine-Westphalia (Essen, Wuppertal) – I hope I might have made a mistake somewhere in my calculations... If not, this could really be a dealbreaker for many, since that would mean substantial additional costs?

That reminds me: quickly install the KNX switches tomorrow.

Even during the lunch break, the doors were open and no tradesperson was around. Anyone could have helped themselves to the tools.

Sorry, but I couldn’t help smiling while reading this.

Tradespeople are exactly what their name says: skilled workers. They are not doormen or security guards; they do their job and only watch over their own tools, for example, a Hilti (most companies require signing additional liability forms for these).

We are currently renovating with tradespeople I know very well and whom I trust with my home (including access to it). Even so, I would never store my tools away early; they should be able to do their job properly.

Best regards, Bauexperte

Wrong, my household insurance covers everything – specifically under the section for external insurance.

And of course, it pays the replacement value – even for used clothing. This is standard in household insurance and nothing unusual.

Financially, we have not suffered any loss – quite the opposite.

Where are you located, Sebastian, and how much do you pay per month? As I said... so far, I have only found ones that replace just xy%.

R&V – but I have additional insurance policies and work in a group – so a single figure won’t mean much to you.

I will take a look at it anyway. Thank you.
