Hello everyone,

Since I am currently planning additional electrical installations, I would like to ask for your experience to better evaluate the prices from my electrician. I am basically interested in the extra costs compared to the existing electrical package according to the building/performance specification for the solid house. The comparison basis should be "all-in" prices, including materials and installation.

- Additional cost per outlet (single and double)
- Additional cost for "switchable" outlets (controlled by light switches)
- Additional cost per light fixture
- Additional cost per TV outlet
- Additional cost per network socket (double socket, CAT-7 cable)
- Additional cost for motion sensors (house entrance)

Thanks in advance for your comments!

All prices related to Gira or Busch Jäger, fully installed, NRW:

- Additional cost per socket outlet: Single €41.00; Double €58.00
- Additional cost for “switchable” sockets: €51.00
- Additional cost per light fitting point: €45.00
- Additional cost per network socket (double socket, CAT-7 cable): €61.00
- Additional cost for motion detectors (house entrance): depends on the system and cannot be answered with a fixed price

Before complaining about your supplier’s prices, keep in mind that electrical wiring is usually the smallest item in the overall house construction budget. Many electrical contractors have therefore withdrawn from the general contractor/building contractor business in house construction.

I am fairly confident that if an electrical contractor is hired externally, the total figures on their invoice will be quite different; knowing well that a mixed costing approach is usually applied in such cases.

Of course, as everywhere, there are exceptions both below and above the average.

I’ve already noticed that the electrician only gets a fairly small portion of the budget for their work and the important role they play in the house.

We paid a total of 4000€ for extras, but that included quite a lot of fun additions (for example, a flush-mounted internet radio in the bathroom that’s controlled with the light) and a huge number of electrical outlets. We mostly installed single socket boxes (in all the children’s rooms, guest room, and bedroom); a double socket can be easily added later (for example, during the first renovation) if needed. The wiring is already there, so another drill hole and a new frame are really no problem.

Hello,

here are the costs based on the JUNG "AS 500" switch system, fully installed, net prices excluding VAT:

- Additional cost per power outlet: Simple €36.00
- Additional cost for "switchable" power outlets: €76.30
- Additional cost per lighting outlet: €37.50
- Additional cost per network socket (double socket, CAT-7 cable): €148.50
- Additional cost for motion detector (house entrance): €139.50

My main questions are about the network cabling...
Does anyone have experience with a 19-inch network cabinet (9U) including mounting and grounding kit, fixing set, power strip, and patch panel? My electrician quoted €528 net. Additionally, €180 for installing, labeling, and connecting the data cables and €170 for testing the balanced copper cabling according to CAT6.

We have the same switch series, and we like it. AND I’m really glad I studied electrical engineering when I see these prices.

If I could and had the time, I would do it myself as well. What prices do you consider reasonable?

Are you referring to something like this? However, these are only 6U and, in my opinion, more than sufficient for a single-family home, plus it still fits above a door. Achieving that with 9U and a ceiling height of 2.50 m (8 ft 2 in) is no longer possible.
