Hello everyone,

We are currently working on the exterior plastering, and the plasterer is now asking me to spend an additional 3000 euros for items he strongly recommends, which were not included in the original contract.

Specifically, these are:

An extra layer of base plaster as fiber-reinforced lime-cement lightweight plaster on highly insulated masonry

and

Full-surface fabric smoothing on the south and west sides to reduce cracking on highly insulated masonry blocks.

My house is built with 36cm (14 inch) bricks with integrated insulation (I can’t find the exact brick name right now). The ceilings are made of reinforced concrete with 10cm (4 inch) of Styrofoam-like material as exterior insulation – the same applies to the concrete ring beam directly below the roof structure.

I have two questions:

1. Should I approve this? Is it worthwhile?
2. Shouldn’t the architect have included this in the contract if it is necessary?

Regards,
Roger
