Hello!
We are planning to build and are about to submit the building permit / planning permission application. What we are currently considering are the access paths to the house and the two parking spaces with a carport. These should be approved as part of the application.

The house is planned to be about 3.5m (11.5 ft) from the northern boundary (the building setback here is 3m (10 ft)) and directly on the eastern property line (about 26m (85 ft)). The house floor plan is elongated, roughly 10 x 14m (33 x 46 ft), oriented east-west, with the main entrance on the north side (in the eastern quarter of the wall). Our hope is to make the most of the “good” garden sides to the west and south since the plot is quite narrow and the road runs along the west side (in the site plan, however, without the house—the one outlined in yellow—with the neighboring houses to the north and south already in place).

Our initial plan had a double carport directly next to the eastern end of the house (on the boundary), but we discarded this due to the long access path (although it would have been convenient for unloading cars and for covering the front door).

Now we want to place the carport 5m (16.5 ft) from the road in front of the house (on the boundary line, basically where one of the parking spaces is already marked, directly next to the northern neighbor’s garage). However, this leaves only a narrow walkway (2m (6.5 ft) wide) between the carport and the house, which winds around and also allows a clear view from the street into the dining room window—which is the first window along that wall—so this is not entirely ideal either.

Do you have any tips for us on what we could improve, what might be more cost-effective, and what else we should consider in the planning?

Thanks in advance
