Hello everyone,

I’m chiming in again.
Large technology companies are increasingly being sold by their founders.
The latest example is AVM, the company behind the popular Fritzbox. The founders of AVM have now sold their shares, and it seems this could mark a new era for the company and its products. Could this sale potentially bring significant changes to the Fritzbox and its future developments? Considering how important this technology is in many households, the question arises whether we will soon see new innovations or perhaps an entirely new strategic direction.

Does the sale of AVM have positive or negative effects on the Fritzbox and its development? And what might this mean for us as users?

According to the press, the new involvement is expected to further strengthen the existing future plans of the original owners (who still remain involved with the company and will continue to contribute). In addition to the current products, an expansion is planned.

My personal assessment: A good deal for everyone, including the customers.

Yes. I believe support for products will be shortened over the years, leading to faster End of Sale (EoS) and End of Life (EoL).

Where the standard modem/router is heading remains to be seen. In recent years, AVM has often not been at the top of the market anyway. The 7590 with lower-quality components simply fail, the 7510 is a senselessly put-together device, leaving out individual bands in the Wi-Fi… I hope they won’t add even more flashy features to the boxes and will focus on the core functions of such a device.

AVM, the manufacturer of the Fritz!Box, has just been hit with a hefty fine! They are alleged to have violated pricing regulations...

Since routers are often provided by internet service providers, there is certainly a contractual arrangement regarding support and updates. The sale of additional products like switchable sockets and thermostats probably only works because Fritzboxes are so common. Therefore, I don’t think this will change in the medium term.

I also bought the repeaters from AVM because I already had the Fritzbox and just wanted it to work (and it does).
