We bought a house in the spring that is half-clad with red facing bricks. We now need these bricks to complete the cladding but don’t know where to find more. Does anyone know where we could inquire? The bricks are a light red facing brick that is about 70 years old (see picture).

I’m touched that Dieter Hallervorden’s Dr. Zhivago sketch is such a classic *LOL*

Maybe you could show the house and measure the dimensions of the facing bricks?

How do you figure? Even if you find matching bricks, they would likely look different in color compared to how they would appear after 70 years of weathering.

In Germany, there are several stores that sell tiles. You can find old tiles there, sometimes sold individually. The prices are far from reasonable because these tiles are considered rare (small quantities from leftover stock) and are suitable if you only need 2-3 pieces for a renovation.

I also think it makes more sense to choose new tiles locally at a building materials supplier that visually match the originals.

Most manufacturers offer models labeled as "antique" or similar. Genuine old bricks can be found on specialized websites, but unfortunately, they are usually as expensive as new ones or even pricier.

Otherwise, I would like to refer again to mayglow’s suggestion. Since the bricks at the top will look different anyway, it might be worth considering creating a real contrast by choosing a clearly different brick.

Take a look at Hoba building materials; they offer facing bricks for restorations.
