Hello,

we want to build a lightweight partition wall using 8 x 6 cm (3 x 2 inch) kiln-dried timber studs, sheathing them with 12 mm (½ inch) OSB and 12.5 mm (½ inch) plasterboard.

Should I fill the cavity (8 cm / 3 inches) completely with 8 cm (3 inches) thick mineral wool insulation, or would 60 mm (2.4 inches) be sufficient? Which option provides better sound insulation between rooms? Or does it not make a difference?

Hello. I would prefer to use metal profiles. These are 100% straight, which is not always the case with wood.

Personally, I would generally use 80mm (3 inches) insulation wool. The price difference is only a few euros.
