Hello Forum!
We have the opportunity to buy an affordable plot of land.
What concerns us is that we only want to build a maximum of two stories without a basement, while on the right (semi-detached house) and left (detached house) there are already 2.5-story houses with basements.
How do you think this will look? Maybe the house will seem a bit small or out of place between these taller houses and the dense surroundings? What do you think? Have you encountered similar situations?
I would appreciate many opinions and perspectives.
Best regards,
Gregor

Hi Micha! Thanks for your reply!! Did you basically just add fill to match the height of the other semi-detached house?
Best regards
GregorHello again
No - we didn’t need to add any fill.
Our neighbor started earlier for various reasons – they had already submitted their building permit / planning permission while we had just secured the plot and were still in the planning phase.
So the neighbor’s house was built, all excavations backfilled – finished. A few months later, our builder came and dug the foundations for our house. We just had to dig down to the basement level of the neighbor’s property at the dividing wall...
Best regards
Micha
If you own the other semi-detached house, you should check your development plan. It most likely states that the semi-detached houses must have matching profiles. This means you have to build in the same way as your neighbor anyway. If you are building a single-family home, personally, I wouldn’t mind a smaller house, but it depends on factors like location, shading, and so on.
