carlosnaHello everyone,
I am currently planning a kitchen renovation using Ikea Metod and facing a challenge: in my older house, the walls are unfortunately not straight but slightly angled, which makes mounting the countertops difficult. My question is: how can I securely attach Ikea Metod countertops to angled walls so that they hold firmly without stress caused by the uneven surfaces?
I have considered using special brackets or substructures to compensate, but I am unsure how to do this correctly and permanently. Does anyone have experience or advice on adjusting the mounting for sloped or uneven walls?
It is especially important to me that the countertop is absolutely stable, does not move, and can be installed in an aesthetically pleasing way.
Thank you very much for your help and suggestions!

How can I securely attach Ikea Metod countertops to sloped walls so they hold firmly and are not affected by wall irregularities?I’m quite familiar with this issue, as I live in an older house where nothing is perfectly straight. When dealing with sloped walls, it’s important to be patient and approach the problem pragmatically.
From my experience: I would first recommend adding a furring strip to the wall to create a level surface. This can be done using wooden battens, which you screw to the wall at the correct angle—ideally measure the slope beforehand with a spirit level or leveling tool.
After that, you can install horizontal support strips that are perfectly level. The countertop should be fastened from underneath to these supports to prevent any wobbling.
I realize this is a bit more work, but it’s better to invest a few centimeters (inches) for extra stability than to deal with problems later. Sometimes it’s possible to compensate for irregularities using construction adhesive or silicone, but that should never replace a proper mechanical fix.
Don’t get discouraged—this can definitely be solved with some effort!

How can I securely attach Ikea Metod countertops to sloped walls so that they hold firmly and are not subjected to stresses caused by uneven wall surfaces?Technically, fastening to sloped walls mainly requires creating a level substructure. Ikea Metod countertops are typically anchored to the base cabinets using mounting brackets, which should themselves be stabilized by properly leveling the cabinets on the floor.
My structured suggestion:
- First, level the wall using suitable wooden battens or furring strips to reach the required height and create a flat horizontal surface. Wedges or adjustable spacers are useful options for this.
- Attach mounting strips horizontally to provide a firm and even support point for the countertop.
- Ensure that the Metod base cabinets are completely level, as the countertop will bear this load. Adjust with adjustable feet if necessary.
- For connections to slanted walls, flexible connectors can be considered to minimize tension.
- Use mounting adhesive and screws as a combination; never rely on just one fastening method.
The key is a combination of wall buildup and precise alignment of the base cabinets. This reduces stresses caused by wall irregularities and ensures the countertop remains stable over time.

How can I securely attach Ikea Metod countertops to sloped walls so that they hold firmly without stress caused by uneven wall surfaces?I find this question interesting because I believe many people quickly rely on standard solutions without questioning the actual problem. Why attach the countertop to the wall at all?
Metod is designed so that the countertop mainly rests on the cabinets – which should therefore be perfectly level and stable. Attaching it to the wall can even be counterproductive if the wall is sloped and may still shift or settle slightly.
Perhaps a better approach is to address the issue from underneath by leveling the cabinets and using shims or spacers to ensure the countertops rest properly. A rigid wall attachment on a sloped surface could cause stress and, in the worst case, cracks.
My suggestion: the edge facing the wall should be slightly decoupled, for example with a flexible strip or spacer. Attachments only where the surface is absolutely level; otherwise, better not at all.
I know this goes against typical tradesman habits, but sometimes less is more.
