Hello everyone,

I am planning to optimize my home office with an IKEA PAX system and am wondering which of the available PAX drawers are particularly suitable for office use. I am especially interested in which drawer sizes and types work best for storing office supplies such as writing utensils, folders, documents, and possibly small items.

Does anyone have experience with which PAX drawers have proven effective? Are there any specific inserts or accessories that make organization easier? I am looking for solutions that are both functional and flexible, and that also fit well visually in an office setting.

Looking forward to your opinions and tips!

For office use, the shallow drawers with pull-out compartments are ideal for neatly storing pens and small items. The deep drawers are well suited for folders and larger documents.

Hey, I combined the PAX drawers with the organizer inserts for my office and I’m really happy! Everything has its place now, from paper clips to headphones 🎧 My desk has rarely been this tidy 😉 Tip: The drawers with soft-close are great too, nothing slams shut.

For reference: Ikea offers drawers for the PAX system in various depths – 35 cm (14 inches), 58 cm (23 inches), and 70 cm (28 inches) are the most common types. Shallow drawers with a depth of 35 cm (14 inches) are ideal for office supplies, especially when equipped with dividers that allow for compartmentalization.

For folders, a deeper drawer is recommended (at least 58 cm / 23 inches), since standard lever arch files require a depth of about 52 cm (20 inches). This ensures that the folders fit completely without unnecessarily opening the drawer.

Exactly, and I would add: If you want to stay really flexible, choose drawers that allow you to customize the interior well. That way, you can put in old pen boxes or trays and always have everything within easy reach! 😊

I wonder if the standard PAX drawers might be too bulky for delicate office tasks. One could argue that they are primarily designed for clothing and often provide unnecessarily large storage volume.

Does anyone have comparative data on how these drawers perform compared to specialized office pedestal drawers? Just because it’s called PAX doesn’t mean it’s the best solution for office organization.
