Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I bought an IKEA Kallax shelf unit along with several white doors. Unfortunately, I only recently decided to expand the shelf and realized that I can’t simply reorder the original door color because they are older models.
My question is: Are there good options to purchase matching doors or replace them in the same color? I would prefer not to replace the entire shelf or use doors that differ noticeably in color. Has anyone had experience buying from IKEA aftersales, third-party suppliers, or perhaps methods for matching door colors yourself?
Thanks in advance for any tips, especially on the best way to handle color matching!

Here are some straightforward facts about reordering Kallax doors:
- IKEA does not provide a standardized spare parts list for Kallax doors in their online store.
- Not all doors are produced continuously; older versions are often no longer available for order.
- Color matching can be challenging because IKEA makes color shade adjustments over the years, even for the same color names.
- For DIY color matching, using RAL or NCS color codes is recommended for accurate identification.
Conclusion: Precise reordering with an exact color match is rarely possible – customized painting or purchasing completely new doors in a new color shade are practical alternatives.

the „perfect match“ is simply impossibleAbsolutely true! Sometimes a deliberately mismatched color scheme actually looks more stylish than a perfect match.
However, if you’re considering a DIY paint job: it’s very important to properly sand the surface beforehand and, if needed, use a suitable plastic primer!
And if you don’t have to match the doors’ colors exactly, try different accent colors. It makes the shelving unit more lively, and you won’t have to struggle for ages finding the “right” color.
Function should be the priority with Kallax, color is just a “nice to have.” 🙂

A precise reorder using the exact same color base is rarely possibleThat’s exactly the interesting point. Sometimes, though, by using a color-matching service at the hardware store and a special paint, you can get very close to the original colors.

try different accent colorsGreat idea! And if you’re bold enough to paint doors in two colors, the shelving unit immediately looks more modern and personal.
In the end: perfection is hardly achievable here, but creative solutions can be really enjoyable! :-)

Does anyone have experience with IKEA as a source for additional purchases, third-party providers, or options for matching door colors yourself?A brief addition from me: I’ve experimented with spray adhesive film (a self-adhesive wrap that you apply) to adjust the color. It worked well for me to mask slight color differences without needing to repaint.
Maybe not for everyone, but if repainting is not an option, this might be worth considering. 🙂
