Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble an Ikea Besta shelving unit and want to focus particularly on its stability. My question is: based on your experience and expertise, which screw connections and fasteners in the Ikea Besta system are especially strong and suitable for ensuring high load capacity and durability? I am not only referring to the standard connections but also any possible reinforcements or alternative screws that can be used to make the construction more stable. Are there specific types of connections within the Besta system that have proven to be particularly reliable? Thanks in advance for your well-informed advice!

Metal brackets / L-brackets that you attach in the corners.Exactly, the brackets are the most practical addition for Besta. Even when fully loaded, the shelf remains stable.
I have had good experience when reinforcing the supplied dowels with some wood glue and additionally strengthening the joint with a suitable chipboard screw. This noticeably increases the load-bearing capacity. This method can also make joints more stable in conjunction with glued-in dowels.

I have had good experiences when supporting the supplied dowels with some wood glue and additionally reinforcing the joint with an appropriate chipboard screw. This is a very good tip because wood glue secures the position of the dowels and ensures better load distribution. However, the screws should be driven in carefully to avoid weakening the material. The ideal solution with BESTA is the combination of glue, dowels, and screws – this makes the joint much stronger than relying on dowels alone.
