I recently installed several Ikea Besta drawers, but they turned out to be quite noisy and somewhat stiff during daily use. In particular, when opening and closing, there is a noticeable squeaking or creaking sound, and the ease of operation is lacking. My question to the community is: What methods, materials, or technical modifications do you recommend to make Ikea Besta drawers both quieter and easier to open and close? I would appreciate experiences that specifically address the drawer mechanics of the Besta system, as I have already unsuccessfully tried regular furniture glides or similar solutions.

The key is to thoroughly clean the sliding rails and their plastic runners – I recommend using a microfiber cloth combined with isopropanol to remove both grease and fine dust.

That is precise and correct. Additionally, after cleaning and lubrication, it is advisable to test the tension and compression forces and, if necessary, realign the drawer slides. Minor misalignment can only be fully corrected through repeated adjustments. This prevents permanent mechanical stress that would otherwise lead to increased noise.

That matches my experience as well. I was also surprised how much adjustment can be made using the small set screws on the slides. You just have to experiment often. Additionally, for especially noisy drawers, I tried cushioning the slides with Teflon tape—not officially recommended, but it had a surprising effect for me and reduced the noise.

I would like to add two tips: First, when disassembling the drawers, make sure the spring mechanism of the soft-close system is not blocked or damaged – this often causes louder noises. Second, applying a small amount of furniture wax (preferably transparent) to the wooden contact points can help reduce noise further and also protect the wood.

In summary, the following points are important:
- Thorough cleaning of the sliding tracks and plastic glide components
- Use of appropriate silicone- or PTFE-based lubricant
- Inspection for wear and adjustment of drawer alignment
- Tightening of all screws and checking of spring mechanisms
- Use of felt or rubber buffers on the stops

If these points are considered, a noticeable improvement in noise level and smoothness of the Ikea Besta drawers can be achieved.
