Hello everyone,
I recently started fitting our kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets and am now facing the challenge of precisely aligning and securely attaching the Metod doors. I have noticed that despite the adjustable hinges, the doors do not always align perfectly, especially when multiple doors are next to each other, where small misalignments become very noticeable.
I’m interested in how you ensure all doors hang neatly side by side, with gaps that are neither too large nor uneven, and how you keep the doors firmly fixed over time. Do you use any special tools or tricks to achieve precise adjustment? Especially with Metod doors, which can be fairly heavy, I wonder if additional fastenings are necessary or if the standard hinge is actually sufficient.
I look forward to your experiences and tips on the precise alignment and optimal fixing of Ikea Metod doors.

Plastic spacers are very helpful during installation. Simply wedge them between the doors, adjust the hinges, then remove the spacers.
For the depth, usually turning the rear screw on the hinge is sufficient to align the door flush.
When securing firmly, always use sturdy screws; otherwise, the doors may become loose over time.

However, with some doors I have the problem that the hinges slightly give way or the screws loosen a bit over time when opening, so the door no longer fits perfectly after a while.

It is recommended to roughly adjust the door stop first, then fine-tune it, and finally slightly lock the hinges to prevent shifting during use.How exactly does this locking work? Do you mean using a threadlocker or a mechanical solution? I’m not sure if the original screws can handle that.

How exactly does this locking mechanism work? Are you referring to a thread-locking adhesive or a mechanical solution?Good question! Typically, when it comes to Metod hinge screws, thread locking refers to liquid adhesives applied in small amounts to the screws — this prevents unwanted loosening due to vibrations and regular use.
Mechanical solutions are uncommon for Ikea furniture and might cause damage. Generally, a permanent fix isn’t necessary if you tighten the screws with the proper torque during assembly and then check and retighten them after a few days.
I recommend:
- Clean and dry the screws
- Apply a small amount of thread-locking adhesive
- Tighten the screws firmly, but don’t overtighten
- Recheck after 1–2 weeks
This prevents the doors from loosening over time while still allowing for adjustments.
