Hello everyone, I am currently planning to furnish my living room with IKEA Besta units. I have a question: which colors work well with IKEA Besta to create a harmonious and timeless overall look? I am especially interested in which wall colors, decorative elements, or flooring options complement the typical Besta colors like white, anthracite, or wood finishes. It would also be helpful to hear examples of whether bold colors like teal or pastel tones tend to work better, or if it's preferable to stick with more neutral shades. Looking forward to your tips and shared experiences!

Hey, great question! 🙂 The IKEA Besta system is really versatile and offers many combination options. From my experience, light wall colors like a warm beige or a soft gray work especially well with the white Besta units. This creates a friendly, airy atmosphere. With anthracite or dark-colored furniture, you could add bold colors in the accessories—think cushions or vases in mustard yellow or deep teal. This brings lively accents without feeling overwhelming. I would rather avoid pastel colors if you’re aiming for a modern look, as they can quickly appear too playful. But hey, in the end, it’s your home—and a bit of color never hurts! 🙂

From my perspective, it’s important to approach color selection systematically when combining IKEA Besta units with wall colors or furniture. Here is a brief guide:

- For white Besta units, white as a base color is always safe and works well with almost any complement. Warm gray or beige tones on the walls create a calm background.
- Anthracite-colored Besta units pair excellently with earthy tones like terracotta or olive green to create a cozy atmosphere.
- Wood tones should be matched to the type of wood used in the Besta unit—for example, light beech goes well with sandy beige or cream shades.

Common mistakes include using overly bright contrasts or mixing cool and warm colors too strongly, which disrupts harmony. My tip: use paint samples in the room to test how everything looks beforehand.

A few additional notes regarding the question: "Which colors work well with IKEA Besta?" Especially when combining different Besta models, it is sensible to limit the color palette. I recommend using a maximum of 2-3 main colors to avoid a cluttered look. Classic white and anthracite are easy to match because they are neutral. For wall design, it is best to coordinate with the furniture, so for example, avoid placing a bright orange wall opposite a white Besta cabinet. In my opinion, pastel shades work well with white Bestas if you want to create a soft, inviting atmosphere, such as delicate rose or mint tones. The environment is also important—how much natural daylight the room receives, since dark colors can make rooms appear smaller.

To clearly and objectively answer the question: "Which colors combine well with IKEA Besta?" I can provide the following points:

- The basic colors of Besta (white, anthracite, wood) are very versatile but should be consciously coordinated with the room’s color scheme.
- White Besta units work well with shades of gray, muted blues, or neutral earth tones like sand or clay.
- Anthracite should be paired with medium to light colors to avoid overwhelming the space.
- Wood finishes are the most flexible for combining with natural colors (e.g., moss green, warm browns).
- Color accents should be used sparingly and preferably incorporated through accessories.

In summary, I recommend choosing colors within the range of muted and neutral tones to ensure a harmonious design over time.

I have to disagree. Anthracite actually provides the perfect base for strong, rich colors to break up the “boring” look of the furniture. Why not go with bold red or yellow? It creates a dramatic yet modern effect.

Besides, I find that all the recommendations for subdued tones are often too dull. Affordable furniture like IKEA Besta invites you to be daring and brighten up the space.

That’s exactly how I see it – color should be fun, not just “neutral and timeless.”
