Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the Ikea Brimnes range, especially the wardrobes and their options for customization. Since I would like to enhance the furniture piece and make it more functional at the same time, I am seeking specific DIY tips. What experiences have you had with refinements, modifications, or practical extensions? I am particularly interested in solutions that are easy to implement, such as changes to the doors, additional compartments, or clever handles. Maybe there are also ideas to use the storage space more efficiently or to vary the design with changes in color and materials. I would really appreciate practical, tested suggestions and small tricks that add value to the furniture.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! The idea of using chalkboard film sounds great, especially if you want to use the cabinet in places where quick notes are needed. What I’m still curious about: Does anyone have experience with modifying the back panels or side panels of cabinets? Are there any recommendations for applying coverings, painting, or creating backgrounds for more personalization? And what about adding extra hooks or rails for hanging?

Let's be honest: When you buy Brimnes, you don’t really expect a design award but practical furniture at an affordable price. Still, it’s worth enhancing the appearance. For example, use self-adhesive patterned films on the sides or back panels to break the common cliché a bit. However, I wouldn’t use materials that are too thick, as that could affect the stability of the cabinets. Hooks can easily be attached directly to the side panels with small screws, which is practical and has proven effective many times.

For remodeling the back panel, I recommend cutting thin MDF boards and covering them with decorative paper. This provides stability and a higher-quality surface. Using magnetic paint as an undercoat also allows for clever attachment of small items inside without damaging the furniture unit.

I decorated the back panel of my BRIMNES dresser with a self-adhesive photo wallpaper – a great way to give the piece some personality. Of course, the pattern shouldn’t be too bold to keep the room’s calm atmosphere. For side panels, colored films or fabric coverings work well if you prefer a softer look.

In addition to the ideas already presented, I recommend installing simple organizers on the inside of doors—pockets or small storage compartments help keep small items tidy. These can be attached with Velcro or screws and make optimal use of otherwise unused space.
