Hello everyone, I am currently planning to complement my living room furniture with Ikea BESTÅ units and would like to combine them with glass shelves. My question is: What is the best way to combine Ikea BESTÅ furniture with glass shelving to achieve both a harmonious appearance and practical usability? I am especially interested in how to best coordinate the materials, colors, and stability to ensure the arrangement looks modern and functions well. It would also be helpful to know if there are specific fixing methods or recommendations to consider when using BESTÅ modules together with glass shelves. Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Basically, Ikea BESTÅ furniture is very well suited for combination with glass shelves due to its clean lines and flexible construction. The combination looks modern and light, especially when the glass shelves are arranged without overcrowding. Important points are:

- For a cohesive appearance, it is best to stick to either the white or black BESTÅ fronts.
- Glass shelves work well as open storage above closed BESTÅ base cabinets.
- For mounting, it is recommended to use sturdy metal brackets for the glass shelves. These should be securely anchored to the wall, since the glass panels are not stable without proper support.
- Pay attention to the weight of the glass shelves: 4-6 mm (about 0.16–0.24 inches) thick tempered safety glass (ESG) is ideal.

This way, you avoid visual breaks while increasing the functionality of the furniture combination.

Absolutely! I recently put together exactly this combination at home and am really happy with the result! The glass shelves add a great sense of lightness to the room and make the BESTÅ furniture look truly elegant. My tip: use LED lighting in the glass shelves, which enhances the look even more and creates a cozy atmosphere. Simply wonderful, give it a try and you’ll be impressed!

I am very familiar with that challenge. For me, finding the right balance between aesthetics and functionality was also important. In my experience, it works best when you position the glass shelves so that they don’t compete too much with the BESTÅ units. In other words, use them more as accents rather than primary storage. As for colors, I chose neutral tones – light wood accents combined with clear glass and white BESTÅ elements. Stability should not be underestimated either – in my case, the wall structure was an issue, so I made sure to use strong wall anchors and regularly check the glass shelves. This way, the overall look feels harmonious and inviting. If you want, I can share more about the installation process.

Exactly like that. Always use strong brackets and make sure to choose appropriate wall anchors. The connection between BESTÅ and the glass should always be supported by the wall, never free-floating. Glass thickness should be at least 5 mm (0.2 inches), otherwise it will be unstable.
