Hello everyone, I am currently working on repairs for Ikea furniture, specifically the Hemnes series. I am interested in which repairs are particularly easy to carry out. For example, I am thinking of replacing or fixing drawer runners, tightening screws, or repairing scratches on the surfaces. Perhaps someone has experience with certain parts of this series where a repair is straightforward and does not require special tools? I look forward to your insights and tips on which repairs for Hemnes furniture are especially easy to do and where you can potentially help yourself.

Replacing drawer runners is also straightforward, as these components are available individually and can be easily swapped out. Thanks for the tip. Do you happen to have a source or experience on the best place to get these drawer runners? I assume directly from Ikea, but I have read that the parts are sometimes only sold as a set, which can make the repair a bit more expensive?

Spare parts like drawer runners are generally available through Ikea customer service, but they are usually only sold as a set, for example for both sides of a drawer. Ordering individual pieces is rarely possible. Nevertheless, this usually remains more cost-effective than replacing the entire drawer. Alternatively, some third-party suppliers offer compatible runners, but care should be taken regarding dimensional accuracy and material quality.
I understand that the cost of replacement parts can be frustrating. When repairing solid wood furniture like Hemnes, it is important to proceed step by step and not get discouraged. Often, simply tightening screws or installing a few parts is enough to restore stability and functionality. For scratches, I have had good experiences using small touch-up pens or wood care products to significantly improve the appearance.
Adjustments to nails or simple fasteners on the back panels usually require little effort. These parts are rarely damaged, but if they are, replacement with standard nails is generally possible. By ensuring the correct dimensions are used, repairs remain straightforward and cost-effective.

I am thinking, for example, of replacing or securing drawer slides, tightening screws, or repairing scratches on the surfaces.I agree, tightening screws often provides immediate results and is straightforward. This can be especially worthwhile with older HEMNES furniture before considering replacement parts.
