I recently put together a kitchen unit using Ikea Metod cabinets and am now at the stage of installing the cabinet doors. I’ve noticed that the doors don’t close perfectly flush and some are slightly misaligned.
My question is: How can I precisely adjust the cabinet doors in the Ikea Metod system so that they close evenly and without any visible gaps or irregularities?
I’m especially interested in the specific steps to adjust the screws, and whether there are common mistakes to avoid during the alignment process.
Thanks in advance for any practical tips and advice!

For precise adjustment of the Ikea Metod cabinet doors, I recommend the following systematic approach:
- Open the door and locate the three adjustment screws on the hinge.
- Screw 1 (vertical) is used for height adjustment. Turning it allows you to move the door up or down.
- Screw 2 (horizontal, sideways) corrects the horizontal alignment, meaning how far the door is positioned to the left or right.
- Screw 3 (depth) controls the gap between the door and the cabinet frame, adjusting how tightly the door fits.
After each adjustment, check the closing mechanism to ensure the door closes flush and without resistance. Avoid overtightening, as this can damage the hinges or the door.
A common mistake is tightening all screws at once without making gradual adjustments. Work step by step and, if needed, note your settings so you can revert to previous positions if something goes wrong.

- Are the hinges fully and correctly installed?
- Are the cabinet carcasses aligned and securely fixed, or is there any movement in the frame?
- Are the doors warped? You can detect warping by visually inspecting along one side of the door while it is open.
If these basic points are correct, focus on adjusting the hinges. A special adjustment tool or a small Allen key may be helpful for precise and controlled work.

I wonder if the standard hinges supplied with Ikea Metod truly always provide optimal adjustment options.
Why wouldn't customers consider investing in higher-quality hinges if the standard ones often cause problems? That might be a more sensible long-term solution than constantly making adjustments.
