Hello everyone,
I have an issue with the assembly hardware from Ikea for the Metod system – some of the dowels and connecting screws for one of my cabinets were damaged or bent during assembly. This is making the build difficult, and I’m wondering what the best way is to get replacement parts or if you have any recommendations for alternative fasteners that might work.
Do you have experience with damaged Ikea Metod assembly hardware? How can replacements be arranged, especially if you can’t visit an Ikea store directly? Or are there compatible screws and dowels that can be purchased independently? I would appreciate any advice.

if parts like wall plugs or screws are bent or damaged, I recommend contacting Ikea directly first. Their customer service usually provides replacement parts for missing or damaged furniture components.
Alternatively, you can ask for replacements at the service desk in the local furniture store – they often have the exact matching assembly materials.
Important: Make sure to note down the exact product number and, if possible, the designation of the specific connectors to make the search easier.

Hello dubla,
I am familiar with this issue. Ikea is usually quite accommodating in such cases.
- You can order replacement parts through the Ikea online store; most are available individually.
- If that doesn’t work, visiting the nearest Ikea store is a good option. They often have a free replacement parts department.
- Make sure to order the correct parts, as Metod uses different types of screws and dowels.
As an alternative: sometimes standard wood screws and wooden dowels from a hardware store work, but you should only do this if you are sure they fit exactly to avoid compromising stability.
If you like, I can also explain how to visually identify the right replacement parts.

Oh no, that’s really annoying! 😕 Don’t wait too long to get a replacement, or the assembly might become stressful and you could end up damaging more parts!
I once had a small issue with IKEA materials and ordered replacements online – it was really straightforward.
Quick tip: If you still have the packaging of the cabinet, it often shows the part numbers of the assembly components – this way you can specify exactly what you need! Good luck, you can do it! 💪

I would strongly recommend using only original assembly hardware for Metod. The fit and load-bearing capacity are precisely coordinated.
If a dowel is damaged or a screw is bent, the furniture can become unstable or, in the worst case, damaged.
If it is difficult to get to an Ikea store, the online customer service usually responds quickly and ships suitable replacement parts without complications.
