Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble my IKEA Brimnes wardrobe soon and want to make the process as smooth as possible. Since I’ve heard that assembling the Brimnes often involves mistakes that make the process more difficult or cause parts to not fit properly or limit functionality, I am especially interested in the following: What common errors do you encounter when assembling the IKEA Brimnes, and how can they be specifically avoided? I am curious to know if there are typical pitfalls during certain steps or if particular tools and techniques have proven to be especially helpful. Maybe you also have tips on how to use the instructions most effectively or which parts should be carefully checked before starting.

A common mistake is mixing up the side panels. Make sure to align the holes precisely and avoid twisting the parts. Additionally, I recommend sorting all screws and dowels beforehand – this saves time and prevents confusion.

In addition to NoValentin’s comment, it is important to know that especially with the Brimnes series, the back panels are often installed the wrong way around. The thin back panel should be positioned so that its edges align flush with the side panels at the front; otherwise, the cabinet will not fit together properly later. I also recommend being extremely precise when attaching the drawer runners, as even slight misalignment can often cause them to stick.

In terms of tools, a Phillips screwdriver and a small hammer are sufficient. Using power screwdrivers can damage the material if you are not careful. A calm, methodical approach helps avoid common frustrations.

I have to say, assembling Brimnes sometimes feels like a little puzzle adventure – except you can’t swap the pieces if something goes wrong 😉. A classic mistake is definitely tightening the screws in the wrong order. My tip: first loosely screw all the parts together, then tighten them properly. This will save you tears and lots of swearing later on (trust me! 😅).

And hey, don’t forget a bit of patience and taking breaks – with some humor, the assembly will go much more smoothly.

I would like to add some detailed information here. In my previous Brimnes assemblies, there were often misunderstandings regarding the labeling of the wooden parts in the instructions, as some numbers are only clearly visible on the packaging or in the leaflet. Therefore, I recommend sorting and labeling all parts carefully according to the instructions immediately after unpacking.

Another common mistake involves installing the drawer slides. It often becomes apparent too late when the rails are not perfectly parallel. This can cause the drawers to stick or not close properly. A useful tip is to use a spirit level and check the slides several times before tightening them.

And don’t forget: never tighten screws with full force – the wood is relatively soft, and overtightening can cause it to split or the screw to sit crooked. Turning slowly and tightening screws gradually one after another is the best approach.

I had suspected that because the perspectives in the diagrams are somewhat confusing.

That sounds very sensible, and I really like that tip because I often try to tighten everything right away and then wonder why something doesn’t fit quite right.

However, I have one more question: Are there any experiences on how well the instructions for Brimnes can be understood by people with little experience in furniture assembly? Are the drawings clear, or are there common pitfalls that aren’t immediately obvious?
