ᐅ Do the hinges stay securely in your KALLAX units? Or do they tend to become loose over time?

Sandy66Hello everyone,
I have a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA, and in my case, the door hinges tend to become quite loose after some time. I’m very interested to know how it is for you: do the hinges on your KALLAX hold up well, or do you also experience them getting looser over time?
I’m especially curious if there’s a trick to adjusting or securing the hinges so that the doors remain stable in the long term and don’t sag or wobble. Maybe the installation method or the material of the hinges plays a role?
I’m looking forward to your experiences and tips! Thanks in advance!

Hey Sandy66, I totally understand! The hinges on my KALLAX were really tight at first, but after a few months, they started to loosen up as well.
What helped me was regularly tightening the screws and making sure to use the right screw size! It’s great when you can simply get it under control like that! 🙂 So keep at it, you’ll definitely manage it 🙂

Hello Sandy66, I know this problem. With KALLAX, the hinge often doesn’t hold securely over time because the panels are quite thin and the screws either loosen or the threads strip.
You can try inserting small wooden dowels or wood glue into the holes to improve the grip. Using slightly larger screws can also help, if possible. However, it is important that the shelf is assembled properly and stands evenly.
If available, you can also try hinges with larger mounting plates, as they distribute the pressure better. If needed, I’m happy to provide more detailed instructions.

Do any of you have experience with the best way to secure the screws without too much effort? Glue sounds reasonable, but could special products like thread lockers also be used?
Hello Sandy66,
I like to use a small amount of medium-strength threadlocker for this kind of thing. It holds really well without causing problems when you need to readjust later.
And a little tip: if you open your doors frequently, check them every few months. That way, it’s just a bit of maintenance rather than a hassle 🙂
Good luck!
