Hello everyone, I’m currently facing the challenge of securely and neatly attaching the back panel of my IKEA Brimnes cabinet. The instructions are available, but I find them somewhat unclear, especially regarding the tension and correct alignment. My main question is: which screws or nails should I use for the back panel to ensure long-term stability without damaging the material or causing unnecessary warping of the panel? Are there any tips on how to properly position the back panel beforehand so that the furniture doesn't wobble or the boards don’t warp after assembly? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions.

Nail approximately every 20-25 cm (8-10 inches) along the edges. Too few nails can cause warping, too many may damage the back panel.

Thank you for the precise recommendation! My back panel is actually slightly wavy—could that be because I nailed too few nails during installation, or was the material perhaps not perfectly flat?

And one more question for clarification: Do you think it’s necessary to add extra fasteners on the inside of the cabinet after the fact, or is the back panel alone sufficient for the stability of the cabinet? Especially with frequent moving or rearranging, I wonder if that would be advisable.

Waviness usually occurs due to uneven nailing or if the back panel wasn’t properly secured during installation.

Here are some tips:
- Make sure to lay the back panel completely flat and, if needed, use clamps to hold it taut.
- Start nailing in the center and then work your way outward to prevent warping.
- For added stability, it can help to attach brackets or wooden strips inside the cabinet, especially if the furniture is moved frequently.

In summary: For Brimnes, the back panel is usually sufficient, but additional internal supports never hurt.

Simply position the back panel correctly and nail it at short intervals; this will ensure stability. You don’t necessarily need extra brackets unless you expect heavy loads or need to secure it for transport. The back panel is designed for stabilization, not as a load-bearing structure.

I also nailed the back panel on my Brimnes but additionally screwed small strips of wooden molding along the edges on the inside. This gives me a secure feeling, even though it’s not absolutely necessary. It especially makes the furniture more stable when moving it.

This exact approach is recommended if you want to increase stability permanently. The back panel mainly contributes to lateral stability, while wooden strips or small angle brackets inside further prevent twisting and warping. Please make sure to fully and evenly nail the back panel before attaching the reinforcements!
