GANAPEOHello everyone, I am currently planning my new kitchen with IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and face the challenge of securely attaching them to concrete walls. My main question is: which fastening materials and techniques are best suited to reliably mount the sturdy but heavy wall cabinets on a solid concrete wall?
I already have anchors and screws but am unsure whether standard expansion anchors or special heavy-duty anchors are recommended. I am also interested in how to properly support the weight across the entire distribution of the cabinets. Are there any tips for wall preparation, specific screw sizes, or special tools that I should definitely use?
Since this is a completely self-assembled kitchen, I want to avoid mistakes from the start. I appreciate any advice based on experience or proven practice!

Which fasteners and techniques are best suited to reliably mount stable but heavy kitchen upper cabinets to a solid concrete wall?Hey, interesting challenge! For concrete walls, heavy-duty anchors are definitely the safest choice — preferably sleeve anchors or chemical anchors if you need a really strong hold. Standard expansion plugs can quickly be overloaded, especially with heavy upper cabinets like the Metod ones.
- Important: Drill deep and accurately, don’t skimp on the drilling depth.
- Always pay attention to the load capacity of the anchors.
- Distribute the weight well, meaning don’t hang all cabinets in one spot.
Also: A cordless drill with torque control makes the job much easier. It lets you drive the screws precisely without damaging the material.
All in all: With the right anchors, the wall will feel as solid as your favorite spot on the couch — firm and secure! 😉

Pre-drill with a diamond drill bit about 10mm (0.4 inches) in diameter. Do not use expansion plugs for heavy loads.
Distribute the fastening points evenly, with at least two per cabinet.

I already have dowels and screws but I'm unsure whether standard expansion anchors or special heavy-duty anchors are recommended.Hello, I would like to add from personal experience. For fixing IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete walls, I strongly advise against using standard expansion anchors. These are often designed for lighter loads and may fail under the heavy weight of kitchen units.
In a similar installation, I used M8 frame anchors. The embedment depth is also crucial; I drilled holes 10cm (4 inches) deep to ensure the anchors are fully seated.
Additionally, the cabinets should not only be fastened at the top rail but, if possible, supported from underneath with sturdy brackets. A precise level is essential to achieve an exact horizontal alignment during installation.
If the concrete wall is porous, applying a special primer beforehand is recommended to improve anchor adhesion.
In short: heavy-duty anchors, the correct drill bit, and precise alignment are the keys to a successful installation.
