Hello everyone,

I’m currently adjusting the doors on my Ikea Besta cabinets and have noticed that after some time they no longer hang straight and feel somewhat unstable. My question is: What is the best way to align Ikea Besta doors so they remain stable and straight over time? I’m especially interested in setting the doors so they don’t become crooked or come loose with frequent use.

I have already adjusted the hinges, but that doesn’t seem to be enough. Are there any tips or specific steps to follow when making these adjustments? Do you need special tools? And how can you best check if a door is truly hanging straight?

I would really appreciate any experiences, tips, or detailed advice!

It should be noted that Besta hinges are typically adjusted as follows:

- Height adjustment is made using two screws that move the hinge body vertically.
- Lateral adjustment is controlled by a screw on the hinge arm.
- Depth adjustment is often done via a screw that changes the angle of the door panel on the hinge.

Precision is crucial here, as overtightening can cause warping of the furniture, which in turn affects the door’s stability.

Using a marking tool (e.g., pencil) to mark the initial screw positions makes it easier to reset them if needed.

Long-term stability can be improved by avoiding overtightening screws in the preset positions. Occasional readjustment after a few weeks is normal, as the material tends to settle slightly.

Finally, use tools appropriate for the screw type (usually Phillips). Any attempt to use unsuitable rivets or bits can cause damage.

This is how you achieve a technically sound and long-lasting alignment of your Besta doors.

Exactly! And I would like to add: If you notice that the doors won’t settle properly despite all adjustment options, check whether any components have warped because they were previously overtightened.

Check the gaps between the doors and between the door and the cabinet to achieve even spacing.

Oh yes, small gaps are really important! I always use a thin piece of cardboard or a small sheet of paper to set consistent gaps.

Be patient and pay close attention to every detail – it definitely pays off!
