Hello everyone, I am currently planning to use the IKEA Hemnes range for my bedroom furniture and want to make the assembly process as smooth as possible. Since I have read that certain mistakes tend to occur more frequently during the assembly of Hemnes furniture, I would be interested in hearing about your experiences and tips. Specifically: What errors should be absolutely avoided when assembling IKEA Hemnes furniture? This includes mistakes related to the assembly instructions, incorrect handling of screws, or other pitfalls that could complicate the assembly or affect the stability. I look forward to helpful advice, practical tips, and maybe some do’s and don’ts from your own experience. Thank you in advance!

Also: Take your time when installing the dowels and use a hammer gently to avoid damaging the wooden dowels.

That’s a great tip. I’m curious if anyone has ever had issues with the drawer fronts? Especially regarding their alignment – are there common mistakes people make, or tips on how to adjust the fronts optimally?

For the drawer fronts of the Hemnes series, I recommend using the adjustment screws on the drawer sides carefully. A common mistake is to screw them in too quickly and too tightly without first aligning the fronts. This can easily cause the fronts to become misaligned and appear crooked. Work in small steps and check with a spirit level or straight edge. Important: Although the hinges are sturdy, they only allow for limited readjustment.

Absolutely – aligning the fronts is a key challenge. It’s important to use the correct screws when installing the drawer slides; otherwise, they won’t hold firmly enough. Additionally, after inserting the drawer, gently press the front into position before tightening the adjustment screws. Keep in mind that the fronts are delicate – avoid applying too much force to prevent scratches.

Also important: Use a cordless screwdriver with a torque limiter. For the Hemnes, the screws do not go in deeply, and if you screw too tightly, you can damage the material.

I have found that pre-assembling the side walls on the ground before the final installation is very helpful during construction. This way, you avoid parts being fitted incorrectly and reduce the need for adjustments.
