Hello everyone, I am about to assemble my new IKEA Platsa wardrobe and want to avoid any mistakes that could make the assembly more difficult or affect the stability later on. How can I approach the assembly of the IKEA Platsa systematically to avoid common errors? I am thinking about things like correctly sorting the parts, understanding the instructions, handling the often small screws and connectors, and of course any expert tips for a sturdy installation. Are there specific tricks or routines you would recommend to make the assembly as smooth and accurate as possible? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey pauhauke,

my top tip for getting started: Lay out all the parts neatly and sort them by type and size. This really saves you time and stress later on when you don’t have to keep searching around. 🙂

Also, stay relaxed – it can get stressful quickly otherwise. The IKEA instructions can be a bit minimal at times, but if you follow them step by step and don’t rush, the assembly will go smoothly.

Ah, and a little trick: Take a moment to gently align each screw by hand before using the tool. This helps prevent the screws from jamming or the wood from splitting.

Hello pauhauke,

to avoid mistakes when assembling IKEA Platsa, I recommend carefully reviewing each assembly step before you start screwing. Here are some detailed tips:

- First, sort the carcass parts and lay them out in the order specified by the instructions. This way, you can keep track of everything at all times.
- Check that all components are included (screws, dowels, connector fittings). Sometimes a few screws are supplied in duplicate, but missing parts can be very problematic.
- Use a suitable cordless drill, preferably with a torque setting, to prevent screws from being driven in too deeply or at an angle.
- The connector screws require some patience and precise alignment. Make sure the connector sleeves are positioned correctly; otherwise, the carcass will be misaligned.
- For the sliding doors, first align the running rails carefully so that nothing sticks later on.
- I wonder: Do you already have experience with this system, or is this your first Platsa project? Depending on your experience, you might prioritize the steps differently.

If you like, I can prepare a checklist for you—just let me know!

Absolutely correct! I once experienced screwing a connector sleeve in slightly the wrong way – the result was a slightly crooked cabinet that had to be taken apart again hours later. Proper alignment is truly invaluable.

One more thing: when assembling larger units, keep a tape measure handy and check after each major construction step to ensure everything is square. This will prevent problems with doors and drawers later on.

Make sure to check all parts carefully before assembling.

Use a hex key with a good grip.

Tighten screws only by hand initially; fully tighten them at the end of the assembly.

Place the frame on a level surface.

That’s really a classic mistake. That’s why I especially recommend, when working with connectors, to stop once more and check their seating and alignment with a flashlight. Even small deviations can later cause problems with the height or the closing of the doors.

Another technical tip: When joining the panels, press the connector sleeve gently together before tightening and align it parallel to the opposite panel. If you feel any unevenness, undo the step and correct it.

Is this detailed advice enough for you, or would you like tips specifically about the door mechanism? Sometimes that’s where the problems occur.
