Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Brimnes chest of drawers and I’m wondering if there is a simple way to remove the drawers so that I can easily put them back in later. My main concern is how to take the drawers out safely without damaging the slide mechanism or the fixtures. I have already tried gently pulling the drawers, but I’m afraid of breaking something if I apply more force. Is there perhaps a trick or a special technique to remove the BRIMNES drawers easily and safely? Thanks for any helpful advice!

You need to pull the drawers all the way out and then lift them slightly upward. That is correct. The BRIMNES drawers usually use a clip mechanism: pull the drawer fully out, then carefully lift it slightly upward or at a slight angle to release the track holders.
Be careful not to overextend or misalign the drawer slides. If it doesn’t work right away, check the plastic clips on the sides of the slides. To reinstall them, simply reverse this process.
If the drawers are unusually stiff, dust or dirt on the slides could be an issue. Cleaning them may also help.

- Pull the drawer out completely until it stops.
- Look on the sides for small plastic levers or clips that secure the drawer.
- Gently press or lift these levers (depending on the model) while simultaneously lifting and pulling the drawer out.
If you proceed carefully, there’s very little that can go wrong. The key is not to use too much force but to gently release the locks.
After removing the drawer, you can check the runners and clean off any dust with a dry cloth if needed. This helps the drawers slide smoothly when you put them back in. If you want, I can provide more information about reinserting the drawers – just let me know.
