Hello,
We are planning to build a single-family house and the bathroom layout is causing us some headaches.
Number of people: 2 adults + 1 child (possibly 2 children in the future)
The shell dimensions of the bathroom on the upper floor are currently: 3.48 m x 3.66 m (11 ft 5 in x 12 ft)
The door is fixed. The window position is still flexible and can be adjusted.
We have currently created the following three designs.
One T-shaped solution and two other variants.
Personally, I prefer Variant 1. My partner prefers Variant 2.
Maybe you can provide feedback or have better ideas.
Requirements:
* Washbasin at least 120 cm (47 inches) wide
* Walk-in shower at least 90 cm (35 inches) wide (shower glass door will be installed)
* Ideally, the toilet should not be directly visible
The sanitary fixtures and furniture are only schematic.
Thanks a lot!

Thank you for the feedback. We can still adjust the window as mentioned — both its shape and position. The door is almost fixed due to the staircase and hallway layout — only a slight shift of a few centimeters (inches) at most is possible.
What do you think about the L-shaped solution?

Back to the original topic: Has anyone else any feedback on the floor plan? I have read all the posts carefully: no one has deviated from the "original" topic or introduced a new one.

What do you think about the L-layout? We wouldn’t be able to provide any meaningful input on a K- or M-layout as long as you only reveal piecemeal information about the remaining seven corners of the house or the space in between (I assume the house has a rectangular ground floor and first-floor plan, and so far you have shared only one corner of the upper floor out of the dark).
So, in your planning you have boxed yourself in with very limited movement of just a few centimeters, and you want to withhold all the basic information needed to give you advice from our overview. My gentle hint about the unwise nature of this approach falls on deaf ears. And none of the participants knows the current construction status of your project: you say “still before the detailed planning phase” — but whether that also means “after the building permit/planning permission” and whether all decisions are already finalized or if all hopes are still open, only the gods know. How are you supposed to get any help like that?
The value for popcorn-level entertainment from so much stubbornness approaches zero, and the community’s discussion value for the readers (best case: envious congratulations on Villa VielleichtBau as the new dream house benchmark for everyone) is even lower :-(

You don’t have to follow or comment on this thread if something about it bothers you.
For my question regarding the bathroom layout, the entire house floor plan is irrelevant. Just imagine a finished multi-family building where the bathroom with the above-mentioned dimensions is to be renovated. There is also the option to move the window. The waste pipes are located anywhere along the top wall.
I don’t see the problem. Any major plumbing company can propose bathroom layouts based on these specifications. So please spare my thread from your comments.
I am looking here for people who can simply provide good suggestions for this floor plan or can give me tips regarding the L-shaped solution, whether it is spacious enough or if any of the space arrangements might be problematic.

Your stubborn passion for incomprehension apart, it remains that you will be significantly more successful with exactly this search if you don’t begrudge providing the discussants with the background information they need, whether you believe it or not:

I don’t see where the problem is. The problem, as mentioned, is your reluctance to cooperate. Your belief that the essentials are irrelevant is incorrect. If the house were finished – a multi-family house being a particularly poor example since the waste pipes would also serve other tenants – then the positions would already be fixed. And if – as I rather assume – the drainage planning is not yet finalized, then you don’t have to limit the freedom to the window position, but could feel free to include broader suggestions.

So please spare my thread your comments. There’s no need for you to respond so rudely. This isn’t about me; 11ant users have thick skin. Your behavior is disrespectful towards the community. You are only the thread opener here – not the owner! – even if some people cannot distinguish that. Your thread is for everyone, especially for those silent readers who have the same problem and kindly refrain from posting a duplicate question. You spoil part of their benefit by being so uncooperative. Those who generously share their practical experience deserve appreciation. You don’t need to show your worst side to them or try to teach them to limit their advice to a simplified version of your question, as this is not practical because the reality is more complex than you may realize. Therefore, my sincere hope is that insight will come to you.
A community is not a one-way street. You ask here and want free advice – so more social behavior is part of the deal!
