I am planning to use PLATSA in a relatively small room, where I want to use the furniture both for storage and as a room divider. I am wondering if there are any structural, technical, or safety-related limitations that should be considered in the planning phase.
I am particularly interested in:
- Are there maximum load limits that must not be exceeded?
- Are certain installation methods or locations (e.g., directly on exterior walls, in damp rooms) problematic?
- Are there any structural restrictions, such as stability concerns, that should be taken into account?
- Which warranty or guarantee conditions might be affected by improper use?
I have read to some extent that PLATSA modules can be connected to each other, but not an unlimited number or size. Any practical experience would be very helpful. Tips on expandability or repair options are also welcome.

PLATSA has load limits specified by IKEA. You should not store more than 20 kg (44 lbs) per shelf compartment.
Assembly must always be done against a wall due to the risk of tipping. Damp rooms can be problematic because the materials are not waterproof.
They can only be extended to a limited extent in a continuous arrangement; connecting more than three modules side by side is difficult due to stability concerns.

There are a few important points to consider when using IKEA PLATSA furniture.
1. Load limits:
- Each compartment is designed to hold up to about 20 kg (44 lbs).
- For heavy items, it is recommended to use lower drawers or fixed shelves.
2. Assembly:
- PLATSA units must be securely attached to the wall to prevent tipping.
- It is important to use the appropriate wall anchors depending on the wall material (e.g., cavity anchors for drywall).
3. Use in damp areas:
- PLATSA is not designed for use in damp rooms or outdoor areas because the material is not water-resistant.
4. Expandability:
- Although PLATSA is modular, there are technical limits.
- Connecting more than three modules may affect stability.
5. Warranty:
- Improper assembly or overloading can void the warranty.
Summary: PLATSA is ideal for standard living areas when assembled correctly and weight limits are followed. For special applications such as damp rooms or large room dividers, careful planning is necessary.

Additionally, it should be considered that the risk of tipping with taller or connected modules can only be sufficiently reduced through proper wall anchoring. For use as a room divider without wall contact, I recommend either securing the base or opting for an alternative solution, since the wall anchors included in the package cannot be used.
Furthermore, overloading the modules may cause issues over time, as this puts excessive stress on the connecting elements and compromises stability. For long-term use in living spaces, the load limits of the shelves should be strictly observed, and it is better to plan with some safety margin.
