Hello everyone,

I have an Ikea Metod kitchen with matte white fronts and want to clean them as gently as possible without damaging the surface or affecting the finish. My question is:

How do you clean your Ikea Metod kitchen fronts, especially the matte versions, to avoid scratches, streaks, or other small damages? Are there any specially recommended cleaning products, techniques, or tools (such as certain cloths) for this type of front? I generally want to avoid aggressive cleaners or abrasive materials but am unsure which alternatives are truly effective and gentle.

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

For a practical approach to cleaning Ikea Metod kitchen fronts, which are often made of melamine or foil, it is important to use mild cleaning agents. Here are some points based on thorough research and manufacturer recommendations:

- Use warm water with a mild, pH-neutral dish soap.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners such as scouring pads or aggressive cleaning agents containing alcohol or solvents.
- A soft microfiber cloth is ideal, as it provides cleaning power without scratching.
- For stubborn stains, a sponge with a very fine surface can be used, but only with gentle pressure.
- After cleaning, the surface should be wiped dry with a microfiber cloth to prevent water spots.

This method minimizes the risk of scratches and surface damage.

Hello sin-bu49,

I agree with Joshbe’s instructions and would like to add that Ikea provides some specific advice for the Metod fronts:

- Avoid aggressive cleaners containing bleaching or corrosive agents.
- Do not use abrasive sponges or steel wool.
- A quick cleaning tip: dissolve a little dish soap in warm water and wipe down with a soft cloth.
- If needed, you can apply a small amount of mild dish soap to greasy spots, let it sit briefly, then rinse with clean water.

Additionally, I recommend not leaving the fronts too wet to prevent water spots and swelling at the edges.

It's interesting that everyone here swears by microfiber cloths! But honestly: Aren't these cloths almost a source of scratches themselves when dealing with stubborn dirt? I think the material properties of kitchen fronts are often underestimated.

I argue that it’s perfectly fine to go back to the good old cotton cord—of course only wet and with light pressure. Most Ikea Metod fronts aren’t as sensitive as some people believe.

And about the chemical cleaners: Which company really guarantees that these supposedly natural-based products are actually gentler? Many cleaning agents are still quite harsh, even if that's not advertised.

My theory: Change cleaning products less often, use gentler agents, and most importantly, be patient when cleaning instead of using brute force.

Brief and to the point:
- Warm water with a small amount of dish soap
- Soft microfiber cloth
- No harsh chemicals
- No scrubbing
This is enough to keep Ikea Metod fronts safe and clean.

Good morning everyone! ☕

Something I often recommend is simply wringing out a soft microfiber cloth in lukewarm vinegar water and gently wiping the surfaces. For me, the appeal is that you avoid harsh chemicals, and vinegar is widely praised as a natural cleaner.

Of course, the smell isn’t for everyone, but if you want to protect the surfaces, it’s worth giving it a try. Afterwards, just wipe again with a damp cloth and make sure no water remains on the surface.

Sometimes the simplest tricks are the most effective – with a touch of sustainability on top! 😉
