Hello everyone,
I am considering modifying my Ikea Platsa system to optimize it for my pet needs. Specifically, I am interested in ideas and practical tips on how to adapt the modules so they can serve as a cat hideout, dog bed, or storage space for food bags and toys without compromising the stability and functionality of the furniture.
Has anyone had experience with such modifications? Which materials, tools, or additional components work best? And how can the interior space be organized most effectively to keep everything practical while remaining pet-friendly?
I look forward to your opinions and experiences, including concrete examples or references. Thanks in advance!

For better clarity:
- Removing the back panel allows for greater accessibility and more space for modifications
- Interior plywood cladding improves stability and enables attachments
- Reinforcements using metal brackets or angle irons increase load capacity
- For cats, integrating scratching surfaces such as sisal panels is recommended
- Removable cushions make cleaning easier and enhance comfort
It is important to take precise measurements, as PLATSA modules come in different sizes.

The best option is to remove the back panel and install an interior lining made of plywood. This way, you can create lying areas and hiding spots. Scratch boards on the sides are good for cats. Thanks, that sounds good. Do you think it’s possible to design the interior with removable shelves to allow for flexible storage options? Also, I’m unsure whether I should fully remove the original doors or just take them off temporarily. Does anyone have experience with this?
