á How can I make the sliding doors of the PAX system operate more quietly?

rile37Hello everyone,
I have a Pax wardrobe from IKEA at home with the typical sliding doors. Unfortunately, these doors are not as quiet as I would like â when opening and closing, they sometimes make quite noticeable noises, which can be especially disturbing at night.
My question to you is: How can I make the sliding doors of the PAX system particularly quiet?
I am looking for practical tips that can be implemented with minimal materials â for example, modifications to the tracks, dampers, or special sliders. Also, any advice on what to watch out for when modifying the mechanism to prevent the doors from sticking or becoming harder to move would be appreciated.
If you have experience with similar sliding doors or even with the PAX system, it would be great if you could share your solutions or tricks.
Thanks in advance!

Hello rile37,
You asked how to make the sliding doors of the PAX system especially quiet. Thatâs a good question because while PAX doors are practical, their standard version isnât always very noise-free.
Basically, there are several approaches:
- First, the tracks and rollers: itâs important that they are clean, as small dust particles or residues can increase friction and cause the doors to run louder.
- Using a silicone spray or special lubricant for plastic parts can improve smooth running without damaging the mechanism.
- Soft sliding systems or replacement rollers made of rubber/TPE provide cushioning.
- Additionally, you can attach rubber bumpers or adhesive felt strips at the contact points of the doors to dampen rattling and scraping sounds when opening and closing.
- For some PAX models, you can install special dampers that prevent slamming and add comfort.
A little tip: The rollers are easy to replace in many models, which is usually the most effective measure. Also important: the doors must be installed at the correct height and alignmentâeven minimal misalignments can cause noise.
If you need more details, Iâm happy to help!

you asked how to make the sliding doors of the PAX especially quiet. To add from a technical perspective:
- Rollers: It is recommended to install rollers with ball bearings, ideally made of high-quality plastic or rubber, to reduce friction and noise.
- Tracks: These should be cleaned regularly and freed from wear marks if necessary. This minimizes resistance.
- Lubrication: Use only special silicone-based or dry lubricants; avoid oily products that attract dust.
- Gliding strips or pads: Applying PTFE tape (Teflon) on the contact points under the doors significantly reduces noise.
These measures can improve smooth operation and almost completely eliminate noise without compromising the safety or stability of the system.
Of course, careful installation is essential, as incorrect adjustment often increases noise.
If noise levels remain unsatisfactory despite all efforts, switching to an alternative door system specifically designed for quiet operation might be considered.

One of my favorite solutions is to stick felt strips under the doors, which absorb a huge amount of that annoying scraping noise. Combined with a little care for the rollers and tracks, itâs like a magic formula for quiet.
Sure, itâs nothing rocket science, but it works, I promise! đ

I had a PAX with quite annoying noises, and after changing the rollers, it was almost silent.
It can also help to regularly realign the doors. If the door is off track, it often rubs against the edges and causes that annoying squeaking.
Good luck with optimizing!
