parpiHello everyone,
I am currently building a new house and planning to equip the kitchen entirely with Ikea Metod cabinets. Since I have only assembled smaller furniture pieces before, I would like to know the best way to install the Metod cabinets in a new build, especially regarding achieving a straight alignment, ensuring stable attachment to walls and ceiling, and dealing with walls that may not yet be fully plastered or uneven surfaces. Are there any specific tips or tricks to make the installation more efficient and secure? I look forward to your experiences and advice on the best approach.

Hello parpi,
With new constructions, it is often a challenge because walls or surfaces are not perfectly straight. Here are a few tips that might help you:
- Check the flatness of the walls using a spirit level and, if needed, a straightedge.
- For uneven walls, you can fix wooden battens in strips to the wall to create a level mounting surface.
- Make sure to position the cabinets temporarily first and only screw them in permanently once everything fits properly.
- For fastening, Ikea offers special metal anchors or heavy-duty wall plugs, especially important for weight distribution.
- During planning, use a grid measurement system to ensure everything is aligned neatly and in line.
Hope this helps!

Hi parpi,
I find assembling Metod kitchens almost like a puzzle, except sometimes the pieces seem to have a mind of their own 😄. Jokes aside, a good tip is to lay out the cabinets on the floor without screws first to see how everything fits. Especially in new builds, things can shift quite a bit.
Also, a bit of patience and an extra pair of hands make the process much easier. Some areas are really tight, and working with two people is definitely more relaxed. And don’t forget – in the end, the effort is worth it. This way, you get a sturdy, clean result.

If you have uneven walls, you can attach wooden battens strip by strip to the wall to create a flat mounting surface. That sounds like a good solution. Would you also extend the wooden battens all the way up to the ceiling? And what is the best way to attach the cabinets to these battens – are regular screws sufficient, or do you need special fasteners?

A bit of patience and a helper make things a lot easier. I agree completely; I’m also planning to have someone help me.
For those of you: how did you handle leveling the ceiling? Especially in new builds, the ceiling can also be uneven – does anyone have tips on how to manage this?
Regarding fastening to wooden battens: These should be firmly attached to the wall, ideally using heavy-duty wall anchors. Regular chipboard screws alone often do not provide enough grip in masonry or drywall, especially under the load of kitchen cabinets.
The advantage of wooden battens is also that the cabinets can then be secured to the battens with standard wood screws, which simplifies and adds flexibility to the installation.
Regarding ceiling irregularities: It is advisable not to mount directly on the ceiling but to hang the wall cabinets with some spacing. This prevents unevenness in the ceiling from causing pressure points or wobbling.
