Hello everyone,

I recently purchased an IKEA Metod kitchen and want to clean the fronts as effectively as possible without damaging the material or surface. Our surface is matte white painted, and I have read that some cleaning products can either leave streaks or damage the paint.

I am mainly interested in:
- Which cleaning products are safe and effective for IKEA Metod fronts?
- What is the best way to remove stains and grease?
- Are there any specific things to avoid, such as certain sponges or chemicals?

Thank you in advance for your experiences and recommendations!

In general, for IKEA Metod fronts with a matte lacquer finish, mild cleaning agents are recommended. I suggest:

- Use a damp microfiber cloth to remove dust and light dirt.
- For grease stains, a mixture of warm water and a few drops of dish soap works well.
- It is important to wipe the surface again with clean water after cleaning and dry it thoroughly to prevent water spots.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the lacquer finish.

In short: mild, damp, clean, and dry—this will help keep the surface in good condition for a long time.

Dish soap and warm water, then dry. Do not use a scouring pad.

I would like to add that the cleaning method for Metod fronts varies depending on the surface type (matte, glossy, foil). For matte painted fronts, I recommend the following procedure:

- Preparation: First, remove dust and coarse dirt with a dry microfiber cloth.
- Cleaning solution: Use about 1 liter (1 quart) of lukewarm water with a few drops of a mild, neutral detergent (pH-neutral). Acidic or strongly alkaline cleaners can cause damage.
- Cleaning: Dip the microfiber cloth into the solution, wring it out well, then gently wipe the fronts.
- Rinsing: Use another damp cloth with only clean water to remove any residue.
- Drying: Always wipe dry afterwards with a soft, dry cloth, as standing water can leave stains.

Additional notes:
- Do not use abrasive sponges or brushes to avoid scratches.
- Avoid aggressive chemicals like ammonia, bleach, or alcohol, as these can damage the paint layer.
- For stubborn stains, a special cleaner for painted surfaces may be used if necessary, but always test it on an inconspicuous area first.

If the fronts are made of foil, extra care should be taken, as these are more sensitive to moisture and heat.

I’m also very concerned about this because my cabinet fronts have a matte finish, and I feel that even cleaning the wrong way leaves streaks.

What helps me is first wiping the surface with a damp cloth and then polishing it with a dry, soft cloth. I have also avoided using harsh cleaners and only use warm water with a little dish soap.

Sometimes I have light fingerprints, which I remove with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

Personally, I often lack the patience to be extremely careful with everything, and I’m worried that the fronts will still become dull after a few months. Does anyone have experience with how to prevent this in the long term?

To avoid streaks, I recommend the following tips:

- Always use a microfiber cloth that does not leave lint behind.
- Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight, as water spots are more visible.
- After cleaning with soapy water, immediately dry with a clean, dry cloth.
- For stubborn stains, gentle rubbing helps, but avoid abrasive cleaners or rough sponges.

From my experience, following these simple steps keeps the matte surface clear and free of unsightly streaks. Also, regular gentle cleaning is better for the material than infrequent intensive cleaning.
