Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to design a new kitchen using the Ikea Metod system. I have a question: Is it possible to plan Ikea Metod kitchens with a card?

Specifically, I am interested in whether the planning can be done entirely online or offline using a special customer card or a similar tool. My question is about how data is saved and whether a customer card is necessary to review or continue the planning later in the Ikea store.

I have heard that some kitchen planning can be done through apps or the Ikea online shop, but I’m not sure if a card plays a role in this—such as the Ikea Family card or another customer card that stores the planning.

Does anyone know if and how it works with a card, or if it’s better to just save the planning digitally? Any advice would be appreciated!

You can design and save Metod kitchens online using the Ikea kitchen planner, but you don’t need a special card for this. The Ikea Family card is mainly for discounts, not for the planning data. You usually save your plans in your Ikea account or as a file.

Regarding the question of whether Ikea Metod kitchens can be planned using a card:

- A customer card like the Ikea Family card does not store planning data. Its main purpose is managing discounts and membership.
- IKEA offers an online kitchen planner where you can save your designs in a personal Ikea account. This way, you have access to your drafts.
- Alternatively, you can save plans in the store, where a staff member can load and continue working on your design based on your account or a file export.

In summary: Planning is done digitally through the account; a separate card is neither required nor intended. Security and the ability to edit later are ensured via the customer account or file storage.

I agree, and I think it’s important to emphasize that. Using a card for planning purposes would be inconvenient and unnecessary from a technical standpoint. Additionally, for data protection reasons, there is no benefit in saving plans via a card when cloud accounts offer much more flexibility.

In my view, this question is interesting because many users believe they need to use the card at checkout or in the store to save their plans. However, technically it works completely differently – your plan is a digital product, not stored on a physical data carrier card.

Thank you for this clear explanation, that’s what I suspected.

One more question: How does it work if, for example, I first design a kitchen at home using the online planner, but then want to continue working on it or purchase it in the store?

Does the advisor in the store have access to my design through my account, or do I need to export the file and bring it with me?

I’m interested in how seamless the transition is from the online tool to in-store sales. Some aspects seem easy to plan online, but for interested buyers or more complex kitchens, personal contact is helpful – and I don’t want to have to start from scratch.

The workflow is as follows:
- You save your design in your Ikea customer account within the online kitchen planner.
- At the store, the design is accessed through your account when you log in with your credentials. Alternatively, exporting or taking a screenshot can be helpful in case of technical issues.
- The consultants use the same software to open your design and build on it.

This ensures a seamless handover as long as you authenticate in the store using the same account. There is no need for a physical card or separate data carrier.

The system also allows you to continue planning on the same day or days later, as long as the data remains digitally available.
